Top 3 Things I Hate About Thailand: 1 – Nothing ...?

Well I didn't plan this very well. I don't have anything that I hate about Thailand more than the access to beer, razors and sunblock. In fact, even those I don't really hate, they are just small things that I notice sometimes. A few other things include:

• My sweat. I like the warm weather but I don't like the fact that my face is like Niagara Falls when I: walk 5 metres in the sun; look at a chilli (let alone eat one); sit down for 2 minutes in a non-airconditioned room; and so on. Of course, this is not really Thailand's fault.
• Moving the airport. Don Muang is about 30 minutes away from Thammasat, whereas the new Suvarnabhumi is the other side of town. How inconsiderate of the government to move the airport only days after I arrive! However things are on the up, since after only several months of the new airport up and running, in March 2007 Don Muang was re-opened for selected domestic flights, making it easy for me to get on a cheap flight to Chiang Mai, Phuket or wherever.
• Balconies. And in particular, the balconies on my room. I have four balconies: the biggest is in fact the laundry, and the view is blocked by the A/C unit; the balcony outside my lounge is an ok size with nice view, but again the A/C unit blocks the view and makes it hard to sit on; the other two outside the bedrooms have a great view but there is only just enough room to stand, let alone sit on. Poor design!
• Respect. Initially it made me uncomfortable when students and staff addressed me as sir or ajarn (teacher), however I'm getting used to it. The worst thing though is the security guards at the building - they stand and salute me when I walk past everyday for lunch. I feel like an army general, especially when I salute back.
